Confederate “Wishbone” Belt Plate Recovered from the Battle of 3rd Winchester - Inventory Number: CON 433 / SOLD

Wonderful condition example of the large frame. This distinctive Confederate waistbelt buckle was widely produced during the war. It is frequently seen in images of Confederate soldiers and, along with fixed tongue buckles, is a basic piece in a CS collection. The tongue is firmly in place and complete with both prongs.   The brass has a nice mellow even color. There are no breaks or repairs. There is a slight wave to the border above and below the fork, and curving to the prongs, which is a nice sign of field use and the pull of the belt as worn. As is typical, the surface of the plate was finished to a degree, but there was no intention of removing every sign of the casting.  Plate measures: 3 ¾” x 2 ½”.

Comes housed in 6 x 8 riker display case with red velvet and descriptive card.
