Early Civil War Federal Issue Enlisted Man’s Waist Belt with Buckle – Inventory Number: LEA 422
The belt is in good condition, showing obvious signs of honest wear. The belt is constructed of two-inch-wide bridle leather, and is fitted with a leather keeper which has an integrally-sewn loop (which resulted in Belt Buckles being lost, as the soldier had to remove the buckle in order to use the keeper).
The belt plate is the Model 1839 oval “US” and has “arrow” hooks, tongue and 100% of the lead fill on the back. The face has a nice clean original finish with a pleasing mellowed patina on the raised areas.
An excellent example of an early Union Civil War Soldier’s Waist Belt, as standard issue to soldier’s during the American Civil War!
