Identified Civil War Tintype – Cpl. Samuel Crudden, 117th Maryland Infantry (100-Day Regiment) - Inventory Number: HAR 232
A compelling tintype of Corporal Samuel Crudden, Co. D, 117th Maryland Infantry, a short-term “100 days” regiment raised in 1864 to provide emergency service during the height of the Civil War. Crudden is seated in uniform, with his corporal’s chevrons clearly visible and his coat tinted blue, adding a vivid touch to the image.
Housed in its original half case, the back retains a period pencil inscription reading:
“Samuel Crudden / Born 1849 / Died about 1901.”
Enlisted: May 24, 1864
Discharged: September 29, 1864
The 117th Maryland was organized for short-term Federal service and was stationed primarily in the Baltimore area for the defense of Union infrastructure.
An excellent identified portrait from a rarely seen Maryland unit, ideal for collectors of Union short-term service regiments or Maryland Civil War history.
Comes housed in 6 x 8 riker display case with blue velvet and descriptive card.
