Incredible History on a Virginia Treasury Note Battle of Fredericksburg – 48th Virginia - Inventory Number: CON 467 / SOLD
Written pencil inscription on the back of this 1862 Virginia Treasury Note reads: “Mr. Dobbins who was arrested last night by the pickets particularly requested to see Col. Campbell personally as he is quite unwell and the guard house is very uncomfortable. He hopes Col. Campbell will see fit to comply with his request." Reference was found concerning this event: Colonel John A. Campbell 48th Virginia Regt., "Incidents at Fredericksburg", Dobbins tried to cross through the lines out of Fredericksburg into the Union lines. Hence he was placed under arrest! Was the note taken off Dobbins person as a memento or used to write on as the actual request we can only surmise. Great Relic!
