Independence Hall – Philadelphia - Inventory Number: CDV 514 / SOLD
Wonderful 1870’s frame constructed of wood from Independence Hall made by a One-Armed Civil War Veteran!
Measuring 6 ¼” x 8” The frame houses a very nice, engraved scene with raised American Flag. The back of the frame retains an original typed label stating:
“Date about 1870. Wood of this picture frame was made from a piece of wood discarded by the builders while making repairs on Independence Hall.
Wood was from the original frame of the Building. Picture frame was made by Capt. Charles Y. Fisher who at that time operated a Tobacco Store on Chestnut St Phila near the State House.”
Charles Y. Fisher - Residence Montgomery County PA; 31 years old. Enlisted on 8/20/1862 as a 1st Lieutenant. On 8/20/1862 he was commissioned into "A" Co. PA 138th Infantry. He was discharged for wounds on 9/17/1864. He was listed as: Wounded 11/27/1863 Mine Run, VA (Severe wound in right arm, amputated). Promotions: Capt. 10/23/1862.
