Model 1850 Staff and Field Officer’s Sword by Henry Sauerbier - Inventory Number: SWO 213 / SOLD

A very fine example of a non-regulation Model 1850 Staff and Field Officer’s sword manufactured by the Newark, New Jersey firm of Henry Sauerbier. This high quality, highly embellished sword features a slightly curved 32” French manufactured, double fullered blade in near-mint condition. Both flats of the bright blade exhibit the Sauerbier style of both military and leafy floral motifs with fancy acid etching in like-new condition. Etchings include flags, drums, and bugles, with a spread-winged eagle and “E. PLURIBUS UNUM on one side, and “U.S.” on the other. The original, red felt throat washer is still in place. The ornate, French-styled cast brass guard displays an eagle perched on a shield, surrounded by flags, laurel wreaths, elaborate scrolls, and lightning bolts. Most of the original gilt finish on the guard is still intake. The leather scabbard features highly stylized and gilded mounts and drag. All crazing has been removed from the leather, which has been blackened to an even, satin finish. This beautiful Model 1850 Staff and Field Officer’s sword is a fine specimen that would complement any Civil War display or edged weapon collection.
