    New York 13th Militia Regiment Button “National Grays” - Inventory Number: BUT 285

    Non-excavated coat sized button of the 13th New York Militia Regiment the “National Grays. The unit became the 87th New York Infantry during the Civil War, and in September 1862 was consolidated with the 40th New York Infantry. The face displays a "13" surrounded by a wreath on a lined field and is developing a deep bronze patina over the gilt finish. The back retains a standup shank and the backmark “SCOVILL MF’G CO/ WATERBURY.” This style is listed as NY230A3 in Uniform Buttons of the United States 1776-1865 by Warren K. Tice. 

    Comes housed in a 6 x 8 inch display case with red velvet backing and descriptive card.
