First printing from 1865 Detailing, the Battles, marches and gallant deeds performed by the 1/15 New York Valls containing a list of the dead and wounded; and count of the hundreds of brave men shot on a score of hard fought fields of stripe; a complete statement of Harper ferries surrender; sketches of the officers; a history of the flags and who bore them, together with touching incidents, throwing adventures, amusing scenes, etc., etc., etc. The lengthy original in conscription reads “Presented to George W. Harris by his Sabbath school teacher. For good conduct, perfect lessons, and reading the scriptures;. George, God grant that the scriptures which you have read, will act as a guiding star, that will lead you safely across the river. May you always be a lover of the sabbath school and ever be fond of working for the proclamation of the cause of Christ through whose mercy and atoning blood ye have eternal life. Your teacher. George: God Grant thee days may be long upon the Lord, which thy give us the end if sinners entice the, consent not too wrong, but remember, God see me. For God in his mercy has guided you through life dangerous, it was, and it’s sin hard to repay this great love. Be faithful and true until thou enter the Vaila within.
