Revolutionary War Officer’s Spurs - Inventory Number: REV 054 / SOLD
A pair of Revolutionary War era spurs, dating to the 18th century: the side bars are simple and flat, but with rounded, raised panels on each end pierced for attachment rings for a short link belt that in turn holds separate slotted strap loops for a spur strap passing over and under the boot. The neck curves slightly downward from the top edge of the heel strap, flares out, and, along with a rounded rowel box. The rowels are both present, and in the form of sharp starburst points. These are all in intact and about 12 in number.
The use of the link belt, floating slotted loops, the downward curving and flared neck, and most of all the clamshell form of the neck and rowel box seem to us very much 18th century in form. The spurs are silver or heavily plated with no base metal showing. They would display very well and were undoubtedly worn by a commissioned officer of with financial means.
