Smith’s Patent Shoulder Bars - Inventory Number: INS 300 / SOLD
Smith’s Patent straps became popular during the Civil War days, offering officers a quality set of shoulder straps, but not the cost to go with them. They were made of stamped brass, having a (false) embroidered look, and applied stamped rank insignia. The nature of these were the tendency to dent, finish wear off, etc. This pair of straps for a second Lieutenant of Infantry and has a soiled white wool background color for infantry at that time.
