General’s grade epaulettes dating from the mid-1840s-1860. They are constructed of gold bullion fabric that has aged to a deep bronze color. Gold bullion tassels hang from brass crescents that exhibit a deep uncleaned patina. The underside of each epaulette is lined with padded gold silk. One epaulette retains a cuff sized South Carolina button with palmetto coat of arms. That epaulette has a few old solder repairs to the twisted wire around the crescent. Overall, a nice pair of epaulettes owned by a South Carolina officer in the antebellum period.
