Springfield Bayonet Made into “Dead Man Hook” – Inventory Number: REL 121 /SOLD
Excavated socket bayonet for the Springfield rifle musket. About 4” of the blade point was bent back to make a hook. These are often believed to have been used as “dead man” hooks to move over-ripe bodies to field graves. However, they could also have been used as simple pot hooks. This one has the typical heavy surface rust of a “dug” relic. Recovered at Fredericksburg, VA.
