    The McLean House near Appomattox, Virginia was owned by Wilmer McLean and his wife Virginia near the end of the Civil War. It served as the location of the surrender of Robert E. Lee’s Army of Northern Virginia to Ulysses S. Grant on April 9, 1865. The image is clear and has the backmark “Photographed and Published by Kilburn Brothers-Littleton, N.H.”
