Containing 10 instruments necessary for removing foreign objects and repairing wounds. Half of the tools are constructed with tortoise shell handles. Manufactured by Snowden and Bros. Philadelphia, PA. Snowden and Brother were major suppliers of surgical sets during and before the Civil War. Apparently, they were supplying the Army Medical Department before the Civil War with large hospital and field sets. According to Edmonson, on the eve of the Civil War, Snowden and Brother were the premier surgical instrument makers in Philadelphia.
Comes housed in 12 inch x 16 inch riker display case with black velvet backing and descriptive card.
