Wonderful “Rose of Texas” Holster - Inventory Number: LEA 438

A brown leather holster with incredible towing design on the body of a rose with ornate border and floral motif on flap. Constructed of brown russet leather with a brass carriage, finial closure device and single belt loop held fast by four copper rivets, leather shows thinning from carrying the weight of the revolver. Seem is excellent and stitched across the bottom plug section as well. An incredible southern holster made for an American model 1851 navy revolver!

The rose held significance as a symbol of hope and resilience in the Southern states, particularly among the Confederate population, due to its abundant blooming during a difficult time and its association with the region's cultural heritage; the flower's color changing from white to pink or red was sometimes interpreted as a representation of the bloodshed of the war.
