Battle of Gettysburg 12-Pound Iron Cannonball  

 

Original 12-pound cast-iron cannonball with a well-defined spherical form and visible fuse hole. The surface retains a dark, aged patina and shows evidence of having been painted gold, consistent with post-war decorative or commemorative display, often seen in GAR halls and veterans’ collections. This example was recovered from the Gettysburg Battlefield and was on display in a GAR Hall in Waynesboro, Pennsylvania, a site historically associated with Grand Army of the Republic activity. A compelling artillery relic.
