1840s Polished Horn Opera Glasses with Silk Bag 

Wonderful pair of 1840s opera glasses constructed of polished horn and gold-plated brass, presenting in exemplary period condition. The optics remain excellent, offering a clear and bright field of view

Accompanying the opera glasses is an original silk carry bag, which has remained with the binoculars since their period of use. The bag exhibits honest age wear and areas of distress consistent with long-term use. A later pair of snaps has been added—an understandable and typical modification, as such bags were often carried and used for decades following their original manufacture.

The gilt brass retains warm color with attractive age patina, while the horn components show smooth surfaces and natural toning.This set reflects both the elegance and practicality of personal optics favored for theater, opera, and public events. A fine and complete example of early opera glasses.
