1858 Pattern Smoothside Canteen with Rare Sky Blue Wool Cover 

Excellent and highly desirable example of the classic Model 1858 smoothside canteen, retaining its scarce and visually striking sky blue wool cover. This variant, far less commonly encountered than the standard jean cloth or brown/gray coverings, presents with a pleasing, untouched surface showing honest field wear and age. The color remains clearly identifiable and adds tremendous display appeal. 

The canteen body exhibits the correct smooth Federal pattern form with the most desirable color, sky blue.  The  same color as enlisted trousers. The cover shows scattered areas of wear consistent with service use. The spout retains its cork with attached securing chain, a feature often absent. Overall, the piece presents as an authentic, unmolested Civil War example with excellent eye appeal. 

Sky blue-covered canteens are notably scarce and highly sought after, often associated with early war production or special contract cloth usage. A strong, honest example that would enhance any advanced collection of Civil War field gear.
