The “Maine” plaque bears the name of 19th Maine Infantry veteran John M. Wellington, along with the names of 3 sons each followed by their Sons of Union Veterans affiliation. Underneath is a bold “GAR / S of UV” carved into the face of the shield, with crossed muskets and “1861 1865.” A second shield is decorated with an American Eagle over crossed cannons and “S. of UV.” Above this is the name and Camp number (Camp 14, Maine) of one of the sons.
