Abraham Lincoln Post No. 4, Department of Colorado and Wyoming – Inventory Number: VET 357 / SOLD This original commemorative ribbon belonged to Post No. 4 of the Grand Army of the Republic (G.A.R.), named in honor of President Abraham Lincoln. The ribbon is printed with bold black lettering on a cream-colored silk or satin fabric and reads: “A. Lincoln Post No. 4 – Dept. Colo. and Wyo. – G.A.R.” The G.A.R. was a fraternal organization composed of Union veterans of the American Civil War, founded in 1866. It played a major role in veteran advocacy, memorial events, and political engagement throughout the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Posts like this one—serving Colorado and Wyoming—were established across the country and named for notable Union leaders. This ribbon would have been worn during official meetings, memorial parades, or other ceremonial gatherings, serving as a symbol of honor, remembrance, and camaraderie among Union veterans.
