Civil War Era Gold Brooch with T-Bar Pin

A finely crafted Civil War period circular brooch, featuring an intricate engine-turned (swirled) gold face surrounded by a border of small seed pearls. The center is set with a six-pointed star highlighted in black enamel, with a single pearl at its center. A decorative ring of black enamel motifs encircles the star, providing contrast against the engraved background. The reverse retains its original T-bar pin and “C” catch, a style of fastening typical of mid-19th century jewelry.

This brooch is an excellent example of the jewelry styles worn during the Civil War era, with patriotic and symbolic motifs often incorporated into designs. The star motif, combined with pearls, suggests it may have been worn as a sentimental or mourning piece, reflecting both fashionable and personal symbolism of the time.
