Civil War Artillery Hat Cord

Description
Civil War Artillery Hat Cord
A striking Civil War period artillery hat cord, executed in regulation red wool. Constructed in the classic braided pattern, the cord terminates in a pair of decorative tassels and was intended for wear on a forage cap or slouch hat as a branch-of-service designation.
The cord retains an attractive presentation overall, with strong form and well-defined braid throughout. Light age toning and minor wear to the tassel ends are present, consistent with period use and storage. The piece remains highly displayable and would pair well with a cap, hat, or broader artillery accoutrement display.
Red hat cords were associated with artillery service, making this a desirable and easily identifiable Civil War branch insignia accessory. A scarce and visually appealing survivor from the period.
