Description

Civil War Artillery Water Bucket – Inventory Number:  ART 439 / SOLD An interesting and rarely encountered artifact. This is a heavy iron water bucket for a Civil War field gun. The sponge bucket held water for dipping the sponge-head into when washing out the cannon tube to remove debris and extinguish the embers of the previous round fired.  This specimen measures approximately 9” in diameter and 9 ½” tall. A 5” wide opening is on the top. The weathered remains of the wood lid is chained to the heavy iron bail. The bail is attached by sturdy iron ring mounts on each side of the bucket. A “T” shaped attachment device is also attached to the top of the bail. Overall, this artillery water bucket displays quite well.   Inventory Number:  ART 439 / SOLD
