Description
Civil War Cap Box — T.S. Leather Co., Lewistown, Maine
Civil War percussion cap pouch was manufactured by the T.S. Leather Company of Lewistown, Maine, a documented wartime contractor supplying accoutrements to the U.S. Army. The interior flap bears a clearly stamped maker’s mark reading “T.S. LEATHER CO. / LEWISTOWN, ME.”, which remains well-defined despite age and service wear.
Constructed of black bridle leather, the pouch retains its belt loops, closure tab, and brass finial. The surface shows attractive, stable crazing typical of original field use and natural aging. Stitching remains tight and the form sound, displaying the craftsmanship of mid-war Federal production.
A well-preserved example of a U.S. infantry cap pouch .
