Description
Civil War–Era Dagger / Fighting Knife – Excavated Relic
Original mid-19th century dagger or fighting knife, measuring approximately 10 inches. This relic features a corroded iron blade with remnants of the tang and guard and grip still intact. The simple crossguard is present, while the grip shows remnants of wood and iron fastenings, now mostly deteriorated.
Knives of this type were often privately purchased and carried by soldiers during the Civil War, particularly in the early years of the conflict when enthusiasm for large Bowie knives and sidearms was widespread. This example, though now in relic condition, illustrates the rugged and practical weapons carried by soldiers in the field.
A powerful artifact of the Civil War era, with a strong “battlefield recovered” appearance that makes it a dramatic display piece for any relic collection.
Comes housed in a 8” x 12” riker display case with blue velvet and descriptive card.
