Civil War Identification Disc

 

Identification disc belonging to Pvt. John Poll of the 5th Pennsylvania Reserves (34th Volunteers) Company K. These ID discs were privately made and used to identify soldiers who were killed in action. Private Poll served with the 5th Pennsylvania Reserves, which was a unit that saw action in various battles during the Civil War, including Fredericksburg, South Mountain, Antietam, and Bull Run, which are also mentioned on the disc. The regiment also saw action in battles at Malvern Hill, The Wilderness, Spottsylvania, and Gettysburg. The reverse side features a profile of General McClellan and is inscribed “Major General George B. McClellan/War of 1861”.

Comes housed in 6 x 8 riker display case with red velvet and descriptive card. .
