Description
Civil War Period Musicians’ Drumstick Carrier
This is a sheet of rolled brass raised bands with clipped corners. It is a 3 1/4″ × 3 5/8″ rectangular breast plate with 2 lathe turned tubes riveted to the face of the plate. The tubes were intended to hold a drummer’s drumsticks while mounted to a drummer’s sling freeing the hands of the musician. The reverse had double iron wire soldered in place to form 3 hooks that allowed for adjustment. The hooks are present, some solder repairs are more recent. This carrier is an 1851 pattern made by G. L. Carrington of Waterbury, Connecticut and so marked on the reverse.
