Civil War U.S. Cartridge Box Plate – Inventory Number: BEL 573 / SOLD Lead-Filled Back with Iron Loops Civil War-era U.S. cartridge box plate features a classic convex oval brass face with a lead-filled reverse and original dual iron wire hooks—used to attach the plate to a soldier’s crossbelt or cartridge box sling. These plates were issued in large quantities to Union infantry and artillery troops and served both as functional gear and patriotic ornamentation. This example shows the correct construction with a smooth, undisturbed lead backing and full hooks. Highly collectible and serve as tangible symbols of Union soldier identity during the Civil War.
