Civil War Union Artillery First Lieutenant Shoulder Straps 

 

An original pair of Civil War Union Army Artillery First Lieutenant shoulder straps, featuring deep crimson wool fields bordered by finely detailed false embroidered brass boarders. Each strap retains its rectangular gilt rank bar at either end, the regulation insignia denoting the rank of First Lieutenant. 

 

The rich crimson facing color identifies the Artillery branch,  a great quality Civil War officer insignia. The reverse retains its original black paper backing with expected age, scattered losses, and evidence of period wear. 

 

These straps display an attractive, untouched appearance with a pleasing patina to the false bullion and vibrant crimson centers. The combination of original construction, honest wear, and strong eye appeal makes this an excellent and scarce example of Union officer insignia from the Civil War period.
