Civil War Union Officer’s Sword Belt Rig with Eagle Plate

This is a complete and original Civil War-era Union officer’s sword belt rig, featuring its classic rectangular Model 1851 eagle belt plate and matching brass sword hangers. The black bridle leather belt remains supple, with both adjustment loops intact and signs of light wear from service use. The centerpiece is the cast brass eagle plate with its high-relief spread-winged eagle clutching arrows and an olive branch, surrounded by a laurel wreath—an iconic emblem of Union officer regalia. The plate has a rich aged patina and is paired with the correct keeper on the belt’s opposite end. Two sword drops with brass snap hooks remain attached via riveted leather tabs, ideal for suspending a Model 1850 foot officer’s sword or similar edged weapon. The overall condition of the leather and brass fittings is excellent for display, a pair of repairs on the body, otherwise with minor surface scuffing and age-appropriate wear that attests to its period authenticity. This is a textbook example of a Union officer’s accoutrement and makes an exceptional addition to any Civil War militaria or edged weapons collection. *
