Confederate Read-Parrott / Sold DIAMETER: 2.86 inches GUN: 10-pounder Parrott rifle, 2.9-inch caliber LENGTH:  8 3/4 inches WEIGHT:  8 pounds 6 ounces CONSTRUCTION:  Shell SABOT:  Wrought iron ring FUZING:  Copper fuze plug, paper time fuze This projectile has two bourrelets, or bearing surfaces, with the upper bourrelet having a greater width than the lower. This bottom bourrelet has been machined down to the diameter of the projectile body. The base is slightly rounded with a lathe dimple, and the sabot is made of thin wrought iron. This is an example of a Read-Parrott, most likely manufactured at Tredegar Iron Works in Richmond, Virginia. Inventory Number: ART 064 / Sold
