Near Mint Condition
Outstanding Civil War era U.S. Model 1855 socket bayonet, preserved in near mint condition and accompanied by its original scabbard, U.S. waist belt with brass oval “US” plate, and original percussion cap box—a truly exceptional, all-original grouping seldom encountered at this level of preservation.
The Model 1855 bayonet retains a smooth, bright surface with crisp edges and a finely preserved socket, showing only the most minimal signs of age. The blade remains straight, clean, and sharp, with no pitting or abuse—placing it firmly among the top 10% of examples encountered.
The original scabbard is equally impressive, retaining strong form and finish with no repairs, dents, or significant losses. Its leather remains supple and well-preserved. Sub inspector marked “H.H.Hartzell, marker marked Emanuel Metzger.
Completing the set is an excellent U.S. enlisted waist belt fitted with a brass oval “US” belt plate, exhibiting a rich, untouched patina and sharp definition to the letters. The belt leather shows minimal wear and retains excellent body, further reinforcing the high-grade nature of this grouping.
Also included is an original Civil War percussion cap box, retaining its original lid, with leather in fine condition and strong overall integrity. Flap of cap box is marked “R. White / US Ordinance.
Altogether, this is a museum-quality Civil War bayonet and accoutrement grouping, remarkable for its completeness, originality, and exceptional state of preservation.
