An extraordinary Gettysburg battlefield relic, this hand-crafted hardwood cane incorporates a Civil War bullet that remains embedded within the original wood, preserving a dramatic testament to the violence of the Battle of Gettysburg. Rather than removing the projectile, the maker fashioned the damaged section into a walking cane, forever preserving the impact of the bullet within the grain of the wood.  

 

The embedded lead projectile is clearly visible where it struck the tree, with the surrounding wood displaying the natural splintering and scarring caused by the impact. Such canes were often produced from battlefield timber as commemorative keepsakes for veterans and visitors, transforming relic wood into meaningful mementos of the nation’s defining conflict.  

 

The cane features a beautifully figured hardwood shaft with an attractive warm honey-colored patina developed over decades. Its simple, understated form allows the battlefield damage and embedded bullet to remain the unmistakable focal point.
