Identified Piece of the 5th Alabama Confederate Silk Flag with Period Note – Inventory Number:  CON 533 / SOLD “WHILE IN THE CHESTER HOSPITAL, PA OCT. 1862 this piece of flag was given to me by ‘J. Schebley’ of the 5th Alabama who was taken a prisoner at the capture of Fort Sumter & captured the colors while at the Fort, James R. Husted Co. K 6 Reg NJ” is written in period ink on a 5×3.75 tag to which is attached a small red, white, and blue piece of ribbon measuring 1″x1″. Possibly cut from a streamer. Husted was discharged in Jan. 1863 from wounds received in battle. More research possible. Possibly wounded at Fredericksburg. James R. Husted: Residence was not listed; Enlisted on 8/9/1861 as a Private. On 8/29/1861 he mustered into “K” CO. 6TH NJ He was discharged for wounds on 1/16/1863 at Phil He was listed as: * Wounded (date and place not stated)   Inventory Number:  CON 533 / SOLD
