Description

Model 1860 Light Cavalry Saber – Mansfield & Lamb, Dated 1862

A classic Model 1860 Light Cavalry saber produced by Mansfield & Lamb and dated 1862. The blade remains in overall bright condition with a smooth gray tone, showing only light peppering concentrated along the cutting edge. The ricasso is clearly stamped “U.S. / L.D. / 1862,” accompanied by the oval “Mansfield & Lamb / Forestdale, R.I.” maker’s mark, now faint but still discernible.

The blade surface shows honest wear from age and service, retaining a clean profile with no major structural issues. The brass hilt has developed a rich, untouched patina, with darker areas and traces of verdigris at the guard junction consistent with long-term storage and age.
The grip retains its original leather wrap, though it shows noticeable wear and loss, exposing portions of the wooden core beneath. The twisted wire wrap is no longer present. Despite this, the grip remains solid and stable.

The steel scabbard presents with a deep, even dark gray to brown patina, showing scattered peppering and surface wear but remaining structurally sound. The mounts and rings are intact.

A solid, untouched example of a Civil War cavalry saber with clear Mansfield & Lamb attribution and 1862 date—offering strong display presence and honest period character.
