Description

Non-Commissioned Officer, Smoking a Cigar in a Jaunty Pose

A charismatic 1/6 plate tintype, produced during the Civil War era as a wartime copy from an original carte-de-visite portrait of a Union non-commissioned officer.

Seated in a studio chair, the NCO leans back casually, cigar in hand, giving the camera a bold, self-assured look. His attire includes a kepi and coat consistent with enlisted or NCO dress, and the crisp detailing of the photograph highlights his beard, cap, and the jaunty tilt of his pose. Wartime copy tintypes such as this were commonly made so soldiers could carry or share favorite images while in the field, making this a historically meaningful representation of personal wartime imagery.

A visually striking and personable Civil War portrait—an excellent addition to any collection of early photography or Union enlisted/NCO imagery.

Comes housed in 6 x 8 riker display case with blue velvet and descriptive card.
