Philadelphia Depot Bullseye Canteen with Cloth Cover and Leather Sling
A Civil War Philadelphia Depot bullseye canteen retaining its brown woolen cover and leather carrying sling. The concentric rings remain visible beneath the fabric, and the pewter spout bears a partially legible stamped marking. Cord remains tied around the neck.
The cover shows thinning, discoloration, scattered small holes, and fraying along portions of the seam and edges. The leather sling exhibits substantial wear, including deep cracking, flaking, surface loss, and a split section near the lower sling guide. Its adjustment buckle remains present, with oxidation to the iron hardware. Impressed markings are visible on the leather near one guide and on spout.
An appealing, visibly worn example of Federal field equipment with considerable character for display.
