Description

Rectangular U.S. Militia Belt Plate 

 

A superb example of a pre–Civil War militia rectangular belt plate, dating circa 1830s–1850s. Stamped brass face featuring a spread-wing American eagle clutching arrows and olive branch, bordered by a stippled field with raised stars. The reverse retains its original soldered belt bar and tongue hook, with the original lead solder showing oxidation.
