Description
Regulations for the Medical Department of the Army [Washington: Government Printing Office, 1861]
Original 1861 edition of the Regulations for the Medical Department of the Army, issued at the outbreak of the Civil War. This extremely rare manual outlines the official rules, procedures, and organizational structure governing the U.S. Army’s medical service, including hospital administration, duties of surgeons and assistant surgeons, supply requisitions, medical inspections, and the care of the sick and wounded. Printed in Washington, D.C., by the Government Printing Office, this volume retains its original printed blue paper wraps and remains in excellent condition, a rarity for such a fragile wartime publication. These regulations served as the authoritative guide for Union medical officers in the field and hospitals throughout the war. A scarce and important piece of Civil War medical history.
