U.S. Model 1855 .58 Caliber Springfield Socket Bayonet

 

Civil War era U.S. Model 1855 socket bayonet for the .58 caliber Springfield rifle-musket. Features a triangular blade measuring approximately 18 inches in length with fullers, mounted to an iron socket with original locking ring and tension screw intact. The blade shank is crisply stamped “U.S.”, clearly visible and untouched.

 

The metal retains an attractive, even gray patina with scattered light oxidation consistent with age. No heavy pitting or structural issues observed. Locking ring functions properly.

 

A solid, honest example of a standard issue Federal infantry bayonet — ideal for display alongside a Springfield rifle-musket or as part of a Civil War edged weapons collection.
