Wonderful eagle pommel officer sword, a style used extensively from about 1800-1850. This example features a large eagle pommel with fine detail and a separate, movable tongue in the eagle’s beak. The grip is ribbed ebony with a squared cross guard with scrolled ends. The first third of the blade retains most of the original bluing with areas of gilt and is decorated with floral and martial and the image of a mounted hussar. The leather scabbard is solid and retains both brass mounts and drag. The sword measures 35” in total length. A very unique and attractive eagle pommel sword.
