Artillery Enlisted Forage Cap - Inventory Number: UNI 162 / SOLD
Wonderful, Original Civil War Forage Cap. The crown of the cap retains an original crossed cannon device used by the Artillery. The exterior presents in great condition with some sweat stains and no moth damage. The original chinstrap is affixed via a pair of original eagle “A” buttons with identical patina.
The interior has been professionally restored by Conor Timoney of Philadelphia. The sweatband is original, the polished cotton lining of the crown is as well. The remainder of the body lining was replaced with period correct material as it was missing, and the crown had separated at a spot of the seam and was stitched back down.
The cap presents honest wear and sweat stains on the sweatband and bottom edge. The color is bright, the chinstrap is in good condition as is the original visor. Overall, a very nice representative piece of Civil War headgear showing field use.
