Battle Damaged Canteen Battlefield of Petersburg, Virginia - Inventory Number: CAN 153 / SOLD

Awesome example of a Model 1858 “Bulls Eye” canteen with six rings.  This appears to be a very early battlefield pickup based on the lack of pitting or rot.  The canteen is lacking the pewter spout and one of the sling retention loops which appears to have been torn away when struck. A pair of shell fragment holes are present at the 4 And 5 o’clock positions.  The reverse has corresponding damage with torn metal from the destructive force of impact.  A fantastic Civil War relic!
