A very nice complete example of a Federal issue cavalry sling in black bridle leather. Issued to and used by Union cavalry prior to and during the Civil War. Worn over the trooper’s shoulder with the snap hook attached to the sling bar on the carbine.
Outer edge of the leather decorative tooling along the entire length that measures 52 inches long and 2 3/8 inches wide. This fine cavalry sling appears to have been shortened from its original length of 56 inches.
Bridle leather surface is very strong and supple with very light areas of crazing. Brass buckle and tip “batwings” original to the sling having never been cleaned! A very nice example with supple bridle leather. Getting hard to find.
