Civil War-Era Oval Sheet Iron Camp Stove - Inventory Number: CAM 614 / SOLD

    Circa 1860’s

This is a rare example of a portable oval sheet iron camp stove, used by Union troops during the American Civil War. Unlike the larger, centrally located Sibley stove, this more compact version was ideal for officers’ tents, hospital use, or small unit encampments.

Constructed of riveted and folded sheet iron, the stove features forged iron legs for elevation and portability.

These stoves were prized for their efficiency and versatility. They could burn wood or coal and were used for heating, boiling water, and preparing rations. Their relatively small size made them easier to transport with wagons or ambulances during campaigns.

Though once relatively common in the field, few examples survive today with such completeness and patina.

    Dimensions: Approximately 20” long x 11 ½” wide x 21 ½ tall
