The classic Civil War mess set carried by soldiers in their haversacks, consisting of a tin plate, cup, knife, fork, and spoon. The plate is manufactured of heavy gauge rolled tin measuring 8 ½” in diameter. The tin cup is typical of the period, measuring 4 ¼” wide and 3” in height and made of rolled tin with exposed solder and a soldered and riveted handle. The knife and fork are bone handled and manufactured by Meriden Cutlery Company, founded in Meriden, Connecticut in 1855. The mess spoon is die struck from tinned sheet iron and is of classic Civil War construction. A wonderful ensemble for a Civil War camp display.
