Civil War Officer's Forage Cap - Inventory Number: UNI 131 / SOLD
Privately purchased Federal forage cap, worn by Union officers. The 5-inch-tall body of the cap is constructed of a fine dark blue broadcloth, with just a few moth nips. The crown shows evidence of having insignia in place at one time. The chinstrap is in solid condition with original eagle "I" buttons in place, and the visor is smooth with a bound brim. The cap retains about 50 percent of the leather sweatband and all of the black silk lining. The inside of the crown is made of padded brown leather with the maker's mark "Bent & Bush" of Boston printed in gold lettering. This is an excellent example of a Civil War officer's forage cap and would display well in any collection.
