Civil War Painted Drum - Inventory Number: MUS 194

Wonderful Civil War painted snare drum from local Gettysburg estate. This drum was brought into our gallery by local couple who stated that it was found in their barn and had been in the family since the war. The drum depicts a hand painted federal shield. Beneath this layer of paint is a regulation eagle drum stencil painting. The paint has been gently washed of light dirt, the heads are original, ropes are replaced, tenision ears are original.  The original label in the body indicates that the drum was “Manufactured by Horstman Brothers & Co. of Philadelphia. Military Furnishers, Fifth and Cherry streets, Philadelphia.”
