Civil War Pass Box – Inventory Number: LEA 463
Pass boxes were used by the gunner to carry live powder filled cartridge bags from a magazine or caisson to the piece. This pass box is a leather cylinder, would’ve had a leather sling with roller buckle, now lacking. The tube measures approximately 14” high x 3 ½” in diameter.
The leather is solid and is the stitching is tight and unbroken. The face of the box has a white painted stenciled identification of the battery and “3”, adding to the aesthetic charm.
Overall this is in very representative example with beautiful stenciling.
