Civil War Smoothside Canteen - Inventory Number: CAN 188

Complete example with brown wool cover, original strap, and stopper. The stitched seam shows some separating. The spout bears the maker mark of Jewett. Retains its iron chain connecting the stopper ring to one of the side strap brackets. The chain is complete.  A complete and original cotton shoulder strap remains on the canteen.  It is marked with inspector’s stamp T.S. Baylor /US. Nice example.
